Over the past year, we have faced tremendous challenges together. The Eaton Fire tested our sense of safety and displaced many of our families and seniors, and it uprooted our young students from the places where they learn, grow, and feel at home. In recent months, indiscriminate federal immigration raids brought uncertainty and fear to families across our city, especially to those who were unsure if their loved ones would come home at night.
These moments have been heavy. They have been real. And they have reminded us just how much we depend on one another.
But they also revealed something powerful about Pasadena. Time and again, we showed up for each other. Neighbors opened their doors. Educators and staff supported our students with grace and determination. Community organizations worked tirelessly to protect and uplift families affected by the fire and immigration actions. And across our city, people chose compassion over fear, hope over despair, and unity over division.
That is the story of Pasadena. Not the challenges we face, but the strength, generosity, and shared purpose with which we face them.
As we gather with loved ones this Thanksgiving, around tables big and small, in homes filled with joy or quiet reflection, I hope we all take a moment to appreciate what we’ve built together: a community that cares deeply, acts boldly, and believes in each other.
From my family to yours, I wish you a warm, peaceful, and grateful Thanksgiving.
