Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, which serves Pasadena members, has earned an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade – the highest possible – for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog.

Kaiser Permanente’s regional Southern California headquarters are located in Pasadena.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients each day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually: in the fall and in the spring.

“Earning an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group reflects Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center’s deep commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care for every patient we serve,” said Sal Ababneh, senior vice president and area manager.

“Patient safety is foundational to the trust our members and communities place in us, and this recognition speaks to the dedication, collaboration and accountability demonstrated by our physicians, nurses and staff each day. Across every department and every patient interaction, our teams remain focused on creating an environment where safety, compassion and excellence go hand-in-hand. We are honored to receive this national recognition and proud to serve the diverse communities of Los Angeles with care centered on quality and respect.”

Leapfrog assigns an ‘A,’ ‘B,’ ‘C,’ ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“This recognition highlights the clinical excellence and unwavering commitment to patient safety demonstrated every day at our hospital,” said Dr. Harsimran Brara, area medical director. “Our physicians, nurses and care teams work collaboratively to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care designed to improve outcomes and prevent harm at every stage of the patient journey. By combining advanced technology, integrated care coordination and a culture of continuous improvement, we are able to provide safe, compassionate care to the communities we serve. We are proud to be recognized for the trusted care our teams provide each day.”

Patient safety is a cornerstone of Kaiser Permanente’s unique integrated model of Value-Based Care. It’s also a testament to the health care organization’s 80-year commitment to the health of patients and the communities it serves.
