Police Arrest Woman in Unprovoked Late-Night Bus Stop Assault on Elderly Victim

An 86-year-old woman was assaulted late Monday night while waiting at a bus stop in Pasadena,Lieutenant Thomas Blanchard of the Pasadena Police Department said.

Blanchard said that officers were flagged down at approximately 11:56 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, near Hill Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, after pedestrians alerted them to the attack.

According to Blanchard, the victim told officers she was approached from behind by a 26-year-old woman who grabbed her. When the victim turned and attempted to back away, the suspect struck her in the face, pushed her to the ground, and slammed her head into the pavement.

Bystanders intervened to help the victim as the suspect fled eastbound on Colorado Boulevard, Blanchard said. Officers canvassed the area and located the suspect, who was positively identified by the victim.

The victim sustained a one-inch laceration to her nose, a small cut on her chin, and several hematomas to the back of her head, Blanchard said. The victim declined medical transport at the scene.

The suspect, described as a 26-year-old Pasadena woman whose name was not released, was arrested on charges of elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon, according to Blanchard. No weapon was used in the attack; only bodily force was involved.

Blanchard said there was no prior connection between the victim and the suspect.
