A portion of Colorado Boulevard will close to cars on Sunday, Nov. 15, for CicLAvia Pasadena, a free Open Streets event where people can walk, bike, roll and stroll on city streets through the center of the city, the City of Pasadena announced Friday.

The city is producing the event in partnership with CicLAvia, a nonprofit that has staged more than 65 Open Streets events across Southern California. It will be the first such event in Pasadena in more than a decade, since the last one in May 2015.

The temporary car-free stretch will connect to the Metro A Line’s Memorial Park station. The event is free and non-ticketed and is partially funded by Los Angeles Metro.

Programming will highlight Pasadena businesses, cultural amenities and community hubs, with activities, information booths and local offerings along the route.

The city said the event promotes policies promoting carbon-free mobility, pedestrian and bicycle safety awareness and community engagement, and that encouraging car-free access to local businesses generates economic benefits. It also said the event supports the goals of Pasadena’s Mobility Element for healthier, safer and more sustainable transportation options.

The Old Pasadena Management District and the Playhouse Village Association have reportedly expressed support for the event.

Route maps, street closure information and details on community activities will be released in the coming weeks at cityofpasadena.net and ciclavia.org. Questions may be directed to city planner Tony Jusay at ajusay@cityofpasadena.net.
