Amateur Boxers Return to City Hall Friday for 11th Annual Centennial Square Show

A boxing ring will go up in the plaza outside Pasadena City Hall on Friday evening, and fighters from the city’s own Villa Parke program will be among those stepping into it.

The City of Pasadena’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is staging the 11th Annual Centennial Square Boxing Show, a free evening of amateur, Olympic-style bouts for male and female athletes ages 8 and older. According to the city’s announcement, the event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Centennial Square and is open to the public.

The card draws competitors from boxing gyms across Southern California. Representing Pasadena’s Villa Parke Boxing Program are boxers including Eli Jimenez, Roman Ramirez, Adriana Nunez, Marvin Gomes, Horacio Rosales and Gabriel Ponce, the city said.

Now in its 11th year, the show is again set outside City Hall, where the city says the event has grown into a local summer tradition. The setting is within Pasadena’s civic center, in front of a City Hall completed in 1927.
