San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible plans a “No Kings” demonstration focused on early voting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Colorado Boulevard and Fair Oaks Avenue in Old Pasadena, one of thousands of events organizers have planned nationwide for the fourth No Kings day of action.

Organizers say they will help attendees check their voter registration and find early-voting options, including ballot drop boxes and vote centers, ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.

The national coalition behind the day is billing the Oct. 17 events as “No Kings: Vote Early” and describes the events as designed to increase participation by all eligible voters. Its partners include 50501, Black Voters Matter Fund, MoveOn and the League of Women Voters of the United States, among many others.

The local group’s announcement carries the subheadline “President Trump Continues Authoritarian Actions and Power Grabs” and says participants will gather “to protest authoritarianism and remind residents to vote early.” It says power “does not belong to billionaires, strongmen, or politicians who believe they are above accountability,” and adds: “Power belongs to the people, but only if we use it.”

Responding to the national events, White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told Newsweek this week that the organizers’ focus on voting “proves they should change their name.” She said Americans face a clear choice in November between the policies of Trump and Republicans, which she called commonsense, and Democratic policies she described as radical socialist and open-border.

Local organizers said Rep. Judy Chu, Senator Sasha Renée Pérez and Pasadena Councilmember Rick Cole have been invited and will speak from the sidewalk. Chu represents California’s 28th Congressional District, which includes Pasadena; Pérez represents California Senate District 25; and Cole represents Pasadena City Council District 2.

Organizers also plan short voting-related skits by costumed performers on the crosswalk, including 30-second scenes in the middle of the intersection when the light is red for all cars, and said the speakers will address the crowd with bullhorns. Organizers also list homemade signs among the event’s visuals. The announcement says No Kings events share a commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety, and that organizers are trained in de-escalation.

The event is a No Kings edition of the group’s “Save U.S. Saturdays,” a demonstration it says it holds at the same corner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. The groupsays it serves foothill communities from Monrovia on the east to Sunland-Tujunga on the west.

The group also hosted Pasadena’s No Kings event on March 28, the third national day of action, when hundreds of demonstrators marched from Pasadena City College to a rally at City Hall. The first national No Kings day of action was June 14, 2025.

Los Angeles County began mailing vote-by-mail ballots Oct. 1. The County lists Monday, Oct. 19, as the voter registration deadline. Eligible Californians who miss it can still register and vote at their county elections office or a vote center through the state’s same-day registration process, with ballots counted once the registration is verified.

Select vote centers in the County open Oct. 24, all vote centers open Oct. 31, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
