A Pasadena Nonprofit Built on Connection Gets a Symbol to Match

Young & Healthy's redesigned logo puts an ampersand at the center — the same small connector that defines how the organization works

For more than 35 years, Young & Healthy has operated in the gap — the space between a child who needs a doctor and the moment care actually arrives. Now the Pasadena nonprofit has a new logo that symbolizes that work: a stylized ampersand.

Young & Healthy unveiled a redesigned logo this week, built around a reimagined version of the typographic connector its leaders say reflects exactly what the organization does.

Since its founding in 1990 by a group of 19 physicians, the nonprofit has facilitated more than $24.9 million in donated medical, dental, and mental health services for low-income children across Pasadena, Altadena, South Pasadena, and Sierra Madre — work that, by definition, depends on connecting people to resources they can’t reach alone.

The new branding was developed in partnership with Los Angeles creative agency Creative Drinking Agency, according to the organization’s announcement.

“More than just a symbol, the ampersand reflects how we work every day,” said Liz Arnold, co-executive director of Young & Healthy. “It represents the relationships we build, the partnerships we foster, and the bridges we create between the community, children, families, and the care they need.”

The organization serves children from infancy through age 18. In fiscal year 2023-2024, it provided services to 8,943 Pasadena-area families — 2,201 of whom received direct clinical care — at no cost, delivered through a network of more than 350 volunteer physicians, dentists, mental health professionals, and specialists. The organization also employs certified insurance enrollers to help families navigate Medi-Cal and Covered California, and offers trauma-informed care training to community partners. About one-third of children in the Pasadena community need the kind of care Young & Healthy provides, according to the organization.

Co-Executive Director Shelley Boyle, who was named to her role alongside Arnold in September 2025, said the rebrand reflects the full scope of the organization’s model.

“Young & Healthy is not only about youth, and it is not only about health,” Boyle said. “It’s about what happens in between — where connection turns access into care, and care into lasting change.”

The redesigned mark will be rolled out across organizational materials, digital platforms, and community touchpoints in the coming months, according to the announcement.

Young & Healthy can be reached at (626) 795-5166. The organization’s offices at 136 W Peoria Street, Pasadena, are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
