The National Weather Service issued a warning on Sunday for dangerously high temperatures expected to persist across the San Gabriel Valley until at least Monday due to a strong high-pressure system over the West Coast.
Despite a slight cooling trend expected early this week, temperatures are predicted to remain at or just below the mid-90’s in Pasadena through much of the week, then rise going into next weekend.
The City reminded residents of the importance of staying cool to prevent heat-related illnesses and last week issued a list of public cooling centers. For more, click here.
On Sunday, Pasadena will feel much as it did Saturday with the high falling slightly to 97.
According to the NWS, the high-pressure system, currently centered over Las Vegas, will weaken slightly on Monday, bringing modest cooling.
Tuesday is expected to bring slight additional cooling down to about 94, which will be the ‘new norm’ for several days.
The forecast for Wednesday through Saturday indicates the high-pressure system will move to the Texas panhandle on Wednesday before shifting westward over the extended period, reaching the Nevada/Arizona border by Saturday. This shift, along with continued moderate to strong onshore flow, is expected to maintain near-current heights through the period.
Wednesday is expected to see a final day of cooling before negligible warming each day through Saturday.
According to the City of Pasadena, the average high temperature in Pasadena historically is 89.
