Altadena Arts Magnet Elementary and Eliot Arts Magnet Middle School are preparing to hold their annual Art Walk event in the last week of April.

The Wednesday, April 26 Art Walk aims to showcase the blossoming talent and hard work of the students and highlight the importance of the arts in education.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the schools will be transformed with vibrant galleries and happenings, showcasing the creativity and dedication of their talented students.

The event is free and open to students, parents, residents and art enthusiasts.

Regina Major, Altadena Arts Magnet Coordinator said the upcoming event features a curated selection of artwork from Altadena and Eliot Arts Magnet’s students.

“This year it’s going to be even bigger because we have more art on display at Altadena,” said Major.

“We have art partners that come in and do art sessions with our students each week. And so it’ll be their culmination for the year,” added Major.

The event will also feature performances from the schools’ drama club, jazz band and gospel choir.

The opening ceremony will be held at Altadena Arts Magnet Elementary Campus located at 743 E. Calaveras St. Altadena. Student performances and more art display can be seen at Eliot Arts Magnet Middle School Campus, located at 2184 Lake Ave, Altadena.

Superintendent Kathryn Barger is scheduled to be among the officials who will attend the event.

Actor Matthew Lillard,  most famous for his role as Shaggy Rogers in 2002’s live-action film “Scooby-Doo,” is also listed to attend.

“He’s going to be coming. Because we have a black box theater, and he’s the honoree. Our black box theater is named after him,” Major said.

Major urged members of the public to attend the upcoming event to see how talented their students are.

“[Members of the public] should come to see how amazing these kids are –  the amazing work they can do at such a young age.”
