Local residents will have access to free medical services Saturday during a health fair hosted at the Altadena Main Library.

The event, formally titled “Nurses Unified for Altadena: Healing Altadena Together,” runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 600 E. Mariposa St. and is organized by The Nurses Pub in partnership with The Pink Journey Foundation and the Altadena Library. It aims to provide health screenings and consultations to residents affected by the January wildfire, regardless of insurance status.

According to a statement from The Nurses Pub, the fair will include blood pressure and glucose checks, general wellness consultations, and access to more than 30 local health exhibitors. Complimentary lunch and live jazz performances by the Vaughn Fahie Jazz Ensemble are scheduled throughout the day, along with raffles and wellness-themed giveaways.

Free mammography screenings will be available to women aged 40 and older who are asymptomatic and have not had a mammogram in the past year. The Pink Journey Foundation’s “Rolling with Hope” mobile unit will conduct the screenings. Pre-registration was required by Oct. 10 through The Nurses Pub website.

The first 40 women who registered will receive gift bags and gift cards donated by local businesses, according to a press release from the foundation.

Follow-up diagnostic services and biopsies will be provided at no cost through RadNet Radiology and Imaging, which is partnering with the mobile program.

Metro is offering free shuttle service to the event. Attendees can reserve their free ride using code HEALTH2025 through Metro’s micro-transit reservation system.

The health fair comes nine months after the Eaton Fire ignited on Jan. 7 in Eaton Canyon and burned 14,021 acres before being fully contained on Jan. 31. The fire destroyed 9,400 structures and claimed 19 lives. Recovery efforts in Altadena remain ongoing.

Political representatives expected to attend include staff from Assembly Member John Harabedian’s office (District 41), Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s office (Fifth District), and pending representatives from Congresswoman Judy Chu’s office (28th Congressional District).

Harabedian’s district includes Pasadena, La Cañada Flintridge, Monrovia, Sierra Madre, and surrounding areas. Barger’s Fifth District encompasses Altadena and spans 2,800 square miles including 22 cities. Chu’s 28th Congressional District includes Altadena, Pasadena, Claremont, and San Gabriel Valley communities.

The Nurses Pub, founded in 2018 by Mona Clayton, MSN, RN, is a nonprofit focused on addressing the nursing shortage through education and mentorship. “Our mission is to make a tangible difference in the lives of community members who may be in need of healthcare referrals,” Clayton said in a statement. “We are committed to serving all residents, regardless of their insurance status.”

Melanie Lewis, executive director of The Pink Journey Foundation, emphasized the importance of early detection in breast cancer survivorship. “Early detection can increase overall breast cancer survivorship to 95% and significantly reduce mortality rates,” Lewis said in a press release.

The Altadena Library is providing the venue and logistical support for the event.
