Altadena Marks ‘Walk to School Day’ Wednesday and Prepares for More Related Events Thursday

Altadena celebrated Walk to School Day 2023 with a series of community-centered events promoting the merits of a pedestrian-friendly lifestyle. 

The annual event, aimed at encouraging walking as a healthier mode of commuting, saw participation from local political figures, school administrators, and families.

The day commenced at the Altadena Library where Assemblymember Chris Holden took to the stage alongside Jubilee Byfield, field deputy from Representative Judy Chu’s office, and Dominick Correy from California State Senator Anthony Portantino’s office. 

The assembly heard Pat Sutherlen, a Town Council Member, reminisce about her childhood experiences of walking to school, emphasizing the nostalgic value and the community bond it fosters.

At Farnsworth Park, Nic Arnzen delivered a compelling discourse on the significant impact walking could have in combating juvenile diabetes. His speech underscored the broader health implications, resonating well with the audience comprising students, parents, and school administrators.

Each event saw an estimated attendance of 60 to 70 individuals, a mix of students, parents, and school staff. The vibrant enthusiasm among the young attendees was palpable, something that will be vividly captured in the photos from the event.

The collaborative effort displayed on Walk to School Day not only highlighted the communal ethos of Altadena but also the shared ambition to foster healthier lifestyles among the younger generation.
