With all Roman Catholic churches in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles closed in connection with the coronavirus outbreak, the archdiocese is encouraging the faithful to view Sunday’s Palm Sunday Mass remotely.
The Palm Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles celebrated by Archbishop Jose H. Gomez will be livestreamed on the LA Catholics Facebook page, facebook.com/lacatholics, beginning at 10 a.m.
A listing of livestreams and broadcasts of Masses from parishes in the archdiocese is available at lacatholics.org/mass-for-the-
The archdiocese is encouraging the faithful to place a branch on their door or in their home for Palm Sunday as a sign of preparation to welcome Jesus and post an image of the branch using the hashtag #LACatholicsEnterIn in English and #CathlicosLAEntran in Spanish.
Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem shortly before his death and marks the start of Holy Week.
“As we enter into Holy Week, we remember that our Lord carries his cross for us,” Gomez said.
“Many of our brothers and sisters are suffering in this time of the coronavirus. People are sick and dying, many families are struggling with loss, with separation from their loved ones. As Jesus carries his cross for us, we need to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in their sufferings.”

This weekend we start Holy Week with the celebration of Palm Sunday. Admittedly, it will be a very strange Palm Sunday: no palms, no procession, no people! Very strange indeed! And yet, we will still celebrate it as always and you and I will be united spiritually through the celebration of Holy Mass and by participating online.
Also on our Facebook page will be the celebration of the Masses for Palm Sunday and the Sacred Triduum.
