Pasadena police say a man in his fifties was able to escape from a would-be robber armed with a chunk of cinder block during an broad daylight confrontation Thursday about 2:55 p.m. near Penn Street and Marengo Ave.
The suspect accosted the victim and demanded his watch and property, Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson said.
When the victim started to walk away, the suspect followed him. The victim was able to run to his near-by home and call police, authorities said.
Responding gang unit officers identified the suspect from the clear description given by the victim and were able to locate and arrest Samuel Lopez, 20, a transient nearby, Clawson said.
Lopez was booked on charges of attempted robbery.
