The Bruins’ football team will return to the Rose Bowl sooner than expected.

The team will hold its 2026 spring game on May 2 at the iconic stadium, marking the public debut of the Bruins under new head coach Bob Chesney.

The scrimmage, which concludes UCLA’s spring practice period, is scheduled to begin at noon. Admission will be free for fans who request a ticket in advance.

Stadium gates are set to open at 10 a.m., with parking lots opening at 9 a.m. Officials said parking will also be free, and a clear bag policy will be enforced.

Event organizers said the format of the game will be announced closer to the date.

UCLA and the City of Pasadena are due back in court next month. The City filed a lawsuit against the college after UCLA officials made moves to break its lease, which runs through 2044, and move the stadium to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

The team announced late last month that it will return to the Rose Bowl next season.

The City scored a major victory when a judge ruled that the matter is not eligible for arbitration.

UCLA is appealing that ruling and used its announcement that the team will return to the Rose Bowl next season in its effort to get a stay in the proceedings.

The spring showcase comes as Chesney prepares for his first season in Westwood following a successful two-year run at James Madison University.

He compiled a 21-6 record with the Dukes, including an 8-0 conference mark in 2025 that secured the program’s first Sun Belt Conference championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff. Chesney was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year and earned national coaching award recognition during his tenure.

In addition to the on-field action, UCLA said the event will feature a Cinco de Mayo-themed celebration highlighting local culture and community. Activities are expected to include a marketplace with handmade goods, food and beverage vendors, live music and a boxing tournament at the stadium’s Court of Champions.

UCLA is also promoting season tickets for the upcoming campaign, the first under Chesney. The Bruins are scheduled to open their home slate on Sept. 12 against San Diego State as part of a seven-game home schedule.
