A woman in her 70s was assaulted Wednesday evening on the 1000 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue by a man who kicked her multiple times and later hurled a large rock in her direction, according to Pasadena Police Lt. Monica Cuellar.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:08 p.m. on July 30. Officers responded to reports of a disturbance and contacted the victim.

The suspect, later identified as Marvin S. Vaughns, 50, of Pasadena, told the victim she “did not belong” at the location before kicking her several times, causing her to fall, Cuellar said.

The victim got away from the suspect, who then tried to instigate fights with other individuals nearby before returning to the victim’s location and throwing a large rock at her. The rock did not strike the victim, said Cuellar.

Cuellar said that Vaughns fled on a bicycle but was quickly located and detained by officers in the vicinity. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim declined medical treatment at the scene, but complained only of stomach pain, Cuellar added. The victim is a Pasadena resident.

No additional injuries or weapons were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
