A free wellness expo Saturday in Pasadena will offer health screenings, mental health workshops and women’s health programming, with a particular focus on children and families affected by the January Eaton Fire.
The Pasadena-Altadena Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will host the annual Black Family Wellness Expo from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Robinson Park Recreation Center, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave.
The event is part of a nationwide initiative by The Links — an organization of professional women of African descent founded in 1946 — that unites chapters across the country for a Black Family Wellness Expo National Impact Day of Service focused on health and economic outcomes for Black families, according to the chapter’s media advisory.
The Expo is open to all community members regardless of race, color or national origin.
The chapter said this year’s Expo will place special emphasis on the mental health and overall well-being of children and families, particularly those impacted by the wilfire disaster.
Featured speakers include Dr. Leslie Richard, a board-certified developmental-behavioral pediatrician specializing in ADHD, anxiety, depression and behavioral challenges in children, adolescents and young adults, and Dr. Cristal Lynch, an OB-GYN who has practiced in Torrance for 30 years, according to the event flyer.
Dr. Karen Guinn, a board-certified orthodontist and TMJ specialist with 35 years of experience who practices in Pasadena and West Covina, and Allie Brown, an herbalist, sound and mindfulness guide and Reiki practitioner, will also present.
Expo programming includes free health screenings, workshops on mental health for all ages, women’s health and overall wellness, movement and mindfulness activities, and information on community resources, the advisory said. Light refreshments will be provided.
The chapter said the event is organized in partnership with healthcare providers and local community organizations but did not name specific partners.
The Pasadena-Altadena Chapter was chartered in 1963 and has 58 active and alumnae members who serve in five key areas, including Health and Human Services, according to the advisory. Nationally, The Links has more than 17,500 professional women of African descent in 300 chapters across 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United Kingdom, the advisory said. Members contribute more than one million documented hours of community service annually, according to the organization.
The Expo is co-chaired by Leslie Richard-Craven and Vicki Johnson. For more information, email bfwellness91109@gmail.com.
