County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger, who represents Pasadena, urged residents to take immediate precautions as strong winds threaten to create dangerous fire conditions in Los Angeles County on Tuesday.
“I urge all Los Angeles County residents to prioritize safety and preparedness,” Barger said. “The anticipated strong, gusty winds that’ll sweep across our County shouldn’t be underestimated. The potential for rapid fire spread and destruction during these conditions is extremely high.”
County officials similarly warned residents to prepare for an immediate two-day windstorm with high fire danger that could bring destructive gusts across the region, beginning today.
Barger called on the public “to take proactive steps to protect themselves along with their families, pets, and communities.” She emphasized that residents should avoid any activities that could inadvertently spark a fire, such as using power tools near dry vegetation or discarding lit cigarettes.
The Pasadena representative urged everyone to “remain vigilant and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by dialing 9-1-1.” She advised taking several preparedness measures: — Sign up for Alert LA County emergency notifications — Monitor local news for real-time updates — Secure outdoor items that could be blown away — Assemble an emergency kit — Be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice if in fire-prone areas
“Your safety is our top priority,” Barger said. “Los Angeles County fire, law enforcement, and emergency response teams are fully mobilized and prepared to respond to any incidents that may arise. Let’s all do our part to stay safe during this windstorm.”
