Bob’s Discount Furniture Opens 40,000-Square-Foot Store in East Pasadena’s Hastings Ranch

Bob’s Discount Furniture officially opened its newest Southern California showroom in East Pasadena’s Hastings Ranch on Friday, filling a long-vacant retail space and welcoming nearly 900 visitors during its soft opening on Thursday.

“Yesterday was our soft opening, said store manager Sergio Carillo. “I think we opened up quite well. Heavy traffic, upwards of about 900 people in foot traffic,” Carillo said. “Just under about $40,000 for the day. So it’s an excellent way to open up.”

The Pasadena showroom becomes the growing company’s 215th store nationwide and one of approximately 30 locations in California, part of a steady expansion for the Manchester, Connecticut-based retailer, over the past 35 years.

Kevin Parker, divisional vice president for the West and Midwest, said the company’s approach centers on straightforward pricing and consistency.

“Same price every single day,” Parker said. “Everybody gets Bob’s Discount.”

The store offers a wide range of furniture, including sofas, sectionals, recliners, dining sets, bedroom furniture and mattresses, with hundreds of items displayed throughout the showroom. The company’s proprietary Bob-Pedic mattresses are among its featured products.

“Our everyday customer is just about anybody. We cater to everyone,” Carillo said.

Regional director Tim Anderson, also a Pasadena resident, said the store’s opening has been strongly received by the community.

“It’s been a great day, especially for me because locally, so we’ve been waiting a long time,” Anderson said. “It’s a perfect match, community-wise, the city and Bob’s. And the guests coming in, they’ve been really excited.”

Anderson said the company’s arrival has also coincided with renewed leasing activity at the shopping center.

“As soon as we signed our lease and started constructing, Boot Barn came in,” he said. “And J.Crew just came in too. So I feel like we started the train.”

Company officials said Bob’s emphasizes transparency and value in its business model, negotiating directly with manufacturers and offering consistent pricing.

“There’s honesty, integrity, just transparency,” Parker said. “Anything that you see on the price placards or anything that you see, it’s all there. No hidden fees, no hidden prices.”

The Pasadena opening also included contributions of $2,500 donations to Door of Hope and Mary Jackson STEAM Multilingual Academy, as part of the company’s ongoing community outreach efforts.

Carillo said the company also hopes to support residents rebuilding after last year’s Eaton Fire.

“We want to make sure we’re doing our part to make sure that we give back to the community, help them rebuild and turn a home that they like into a home they love,” he said.

Company officials said they expect continued strong interest as more customers visit the new Hastings Ranch location in the coming weeks.
