The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena (BGCP) has been named Nonprofit of the Year in the emerging category at the Los Angeles Business Journal’s annual Nonprofit and Citizenship Awards. The recognition comes as the organization continues its 88-year mission of supporting youth in the Pasadena community while adapting to meet new challenges.
“Our core values of keeping kids safe and enriching their lives, especially those who need us most, are stronger than ever,” said BGCP CEO Lisa Cavelier. “And in recent years and months we’ve added necessary supports like mental health that have really taken us to the next level. We are grateful for this recognition!”
The award was presented at a luncheon held at the downtown LA Biltmore Hotel last week. Since its founding in 1937, BGCP has served the greater Pasadena community by providing programs focused on Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyle, and Good Character and Leadership for youth ages 5-18.
BGCP serves more than 2,000 young people annually, offering a welcoming environment that bridges the gap between school and home throughout the year. The club provides a safe and positive space where children and teens have fun, participate in life-changing programs, make friends, and receive encouragement from caring adults.
The organization normally operates four locations across the Pasadena area: the Slavik Branch on E. Del Mar Blvd., Mackenzie-Scott Branch on N. Fair Oaks Avenue, and two sites at Odyssey Charter Schools’ North and South campuses. Recently, the OCS South campus burned in the Eaton Fire.
In response to this challenge, BGCP is currently accepting donations that go directly to families most affected by the Eaton Fire. Those wishing to support these efforts can contribute through the organization’s donation page at https://tinyurl.com/
