Brace for 106-Degree Heat, As 3-Day Heat Peak Arrives

Published on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 | 4:50 am

Pasadena residents face the hottest day of the current heat wave Wednesday, with highs near 106 degrees and heat index values reaching 109, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

Extreme heat warnings remain in effect across the region.

Forecasters said strong high pressure and weak onshore flow will keep skies clear and temperatures dangerously high. Today’s conditions will be sunny, with calm winds shifting southwest at about 5 mph in the afternoon. Overnight lows will remain near 70 degrees, offering little relief.

Thursday is expected to stay hot, with highs near 105 degrees. Moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Iselle could bring cloud cover and humidity, with a 10 to 15 percent chance of showers. Friday will be mostly sunny, with highs around 106 degrees, keeping heat advisories in place.

A cooling trend will begin Saturday, with highs near 101 degrees. More significant relief arrives Sunday, when highs fall into the lower 90s. By Monday and Tuesday, highs are forecast in the upper 80s, several degrees below normal for late August.

Winds will remain light through the week, generally calm in the mornings and shifting southwest in the afternoons. Increased onshore flow over the weekend will help restore the marine layer and cooler mornings.

The National Weather Service warned that overnight lows will remain 8 to 12 degrees above normal through Friday, compounding risks of heat exhaustion and dehydration. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and use cooling centers. Vulnerable populations, including seniors and those without air conditioning, face heightened danger.

Forecasters said the cooling trend will continue into next week, with highs in the upper 80s and no significant heat events expected through at least Sept. 4.
