Fifty years after it first popped up over Lake Avenue in Pasadena, and five years after the eatery it advertised went out of business, the Burger Continental sign that has long adorned Lake Avenue has vanished.
Workers were seen removing the sign from its perch above 535 South Lake Avenue on Wednesday.
For decades, the burger joint and Mediterranean restaurant served as a hangout for generations of students who attended nearby CalTech.
The business ran into trouble with the Pasadena Health Department and was cited for numerous violations in the years leading up to its ultimate closure in 2015.
