Pasadena police arrested a 45–year–old transient man early Wednesday after Best Buy security reported seeing a suspect inside the store on live surveillance cameras, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Tim Bundy.
Lieutenant Bundy said the call came in at 1:14 a.m. from store security, who described the subject as a white man in his 40s, wearing a dark blue hoodie and light–colored khakis. Officers responded to the Best Buy at the 3400 block of East Foothill Boulevard, along with an employee who had keys to the building.
Bundy said that the store was opened and the suspect, identified as Patrick Keys, was taken into custody without incident. Keys was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Investigators have not yet determined how the suspect entered the store, as there were no signs of forced entry.
According to RMG News, witnesses outside the store told reporters they had been camping overnight to purchase newly released Pokémon cards when dozens of officers arrived and surrounded the building. Some witnesses speculated the man may have hidden inside before closing time to gain access to the cards, though police have not confirmed whether Keys intended to steal merchandise or was interested in the cards at all.
