Caltech Men’s Tennis Sweeps Linfield

No. 31 Caltech Men’s Tennis lost just one set between singles and doubles in a 7-0 sweep of Linfield University on Monday.

Juniors Tejas Ram (Allen, Texas / Allen) and Constantin Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne were the first to finish on the doubles courts, winning 6-3 to bring their season record as a pair to 6-2. Senior Andrew Zabelo (Florham Park, N.J. / Newark Academy) and junior Eric He (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan) won just minutes later by the same score to clinch the doubles point for Caltech.

Caltech did not drop a set in singles. He made it a quick day at the office, finishing first with a 6-0, 6-0 thrashing of his opponent on court 3 in under an hour. He is now 7-1 in singles this season.

Ram also made short work of his opponent on court 4, winning 6-2, 6-0, bringing his win-loss record to 6-2 in singles on the year.

Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne was the third of four Beavers to win his singles match while dropping two games or fewer. His 6-1, 6-1 clinic brought his record to 7-1 on the year and secured the win over Linfield for the Beavers.

First-year Michael Gao was the next Beaver to finish. He dominated the first set, 6-1 and closed out the second set in 6-3 fashion for the win. He is 6-2 in singles this season.

Zabelo was the fourth Beaver to drop two games or fewer. His 6-0, 6-2 victory brought his singles record this year to 6-2. He is currently on a four-match winning streak.

First-year Soren Ghorai (Woodway Wash. / Eastside Preparatory School) made his collegiate debut against Linfield Monday on court six. He battled through the first set, winning 6-4 before claiming the second set 6-2 for his first collegiate victory, sealing the sweep for the Beavers.

Caltech Men’s Tennis is right back in action Tuesday, March 24 when the Beavers host Colby at 11:00 a.m. on the Caltech tennis courts.
