Following years of the Beavers’ growth and success on the court, Caltech Women’s Basketball announces Madison Quan as the head coach for the 2025-26 season, the Department of Athletics, Recreation and Instruction announced Tuesday.
A graduate of Pitzer College who played four years with the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, earning the 2022-23 SCIAC Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Year award and then serving as the Sagehens’ assistant coach. She is second all-time in steals (285) for Pomona-Pitzer women’s basketball. According to Pomona-Pitzer athletics, she is also 5th all time in assists (359) and 6th all time in points (1313) for the sagehens. Given her playing and coaching histroy, Quan is intimately familiar with Caltech, Braun Gymnasium and the SCIAC. She joins the Beavers as Head Coach Annie Tarakchian will be out for the season on maternity leave.
“Stepping into the Head Coach role at Caltech is both an honor and a full-circle moment,” said Quan. “The SCIAC shaped me as a student-athlete — it challenged me, pushed me to excel, and gave me some of the most fun and rewarding memories of my playing career and DIII college experience.”
Quan holds Caltech and its fellow SCIAC member institutions in high regard, and looks forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead. “To now continue in this conference on the sidelines, competing against the high-IQ head coaches I have always admired, feels surreal and motivating,” Quan elaborated. “What excites me most is the chance to mentor Caltech’s student-athletes — supporting their growth on the court and in the classroom, while helping them build meaningful experiences this conference once gave me. This synergy will be equally as rewarding for me!”
Caltech Women’s Basketball will host Westcliff University in an exhibition on Tuesday, Oct. 28 before tipping off the regular season against MIT on Saturday, Nov. 8.
