Caltrans Asks Public For Suggestions on Areas to Improve Bicycling, Walking

Caltrans Wednesday asked the public to provide input via a new map-based survey on where the state transportation agency should make roadway improvements to make it safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The survey data will be used to help Caltrans identify spots on or near the state highway system for enhancements and detail to type of work needed, allowing the department to “evaluate these locations in developing future projects.”

Caltrans District 7 Director Tony Tavares said public suggestions on the department’s Active Transportation Plan will be “crucial to the development of safe pedestrian, bicycle and public transit facilities on our highways.”

The agency seeks to “align the state’s bicycle and pedestrian network with the needs of local communities, with an emphasis on improving social equity, reconnecting communities, and improving access for all modes of transportation, including people who walk and bicycle,” according to a Caltrans statement.
