Numerous nonprofits throughout the San Gabriel Valley hosted some type of Thanksgiving meal or food giveaway Wednesday as part of their Thanksgiving week celebrations.
At Pasadena’s Union Station Homeless Services, more than 6,000 community members and clients were provided with either a sitdown dinner, or a meal to prepare at home earlier in the week. Union Station clients also enjoyed a dinner together Tuesday at the Union Station Family Center.
Guests arrived all day long on Wednesday for a hot meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and corn, along with pumpkin pie. Many dined at outdoor tables while others took home meals prepared for them.
At Foothill Unity Center, families in cars lined up early Wednesday morning at their offices in East Pasadena. There they were provided with either a fresh turkey or chicken, along with fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as potatoes and dessert.
A team of volunteers from LA County Fifth District Supervisor Barger supported the efforts of a number of various nonprofit organizations and L.A. County senior centers by preparing and distributing Thanksgiving meals for and members of the public.
Barger has annually hosted a “Day of Giving” the day before Thanksgiving since 2018.
The Flintridge Center, 2024 Congressional Nonprofit of the Year, also provided turkeys to clients and community members on Wednesday.
