City Begins Process to Find Next Director of Housing

The application process for the next Director of Housing is slated to begin next month, with screenings and interviews taking place in February.

“Community input is an essential component in selecting the next leader of the Housing Department. I strongly encourage all community members to participate in the upcoming forum and share their perspectives on the qualities, skills, and experience they believe are critical for the new director,” said City Manager Miguel Márquez.

The City, like the state, is mired in an affordable housing crisis. The City’s Housing Department is dedicated to providing affordable housing and community development opportunities for low- and moderate-income persons and employment resources to enhance and strengthen the community.

Bill Huang, the current Housing Director, is scheduled to retire on December 16. Huang leaves big shoes to fill. He has won several awards and is described as a visionary and the best in his field.

The public is encouraged to attend a virtual meeting to provide input about the most important qualities that potential candidates should have. The community forum will take place on Zoom at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 19.
