The City Council renewed its search for a new City Manager on Monday in a closed session meeting ahead of Monday’s open City Council meeting.
The meeting comes weeks after Riverside City Manager Mike Futrell decided not to come to Pasadena and stay in Riverside.
According to City Attorney Michele Bagneris, no action was taken as a result of the closed session item.
The City has a City Manager-City Council form of governance, allowing the City Council to establish policy, which is carried out by City employees led by the City Manager.
The search follows a three-year stint by Miguel Marquez, who announced his retirement in November to take care of family.
The City Manager leads department heads in 14 departments, including Pasadena Water and Power and the Pasadena Police Department.
The position oversees an annual operating budget of more than $1 billion and approximately 2,200 employees. Beyond standard municipal services, the role includes partnership oversight of the Rose Bowl Stadium, the Convention Center and Visitors Bureau, Pasadena Water and Power, and Pasadena Media.
The salary range is rumored to be between $380,000 to $425,000.
The next City Manager will oversee the continued recovery of the Eaton Fire which damaged more than 100 structures in Pasadena, have a hand in the continued lawsuit between the City and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and lead the development of the 710 stub.
