City Council Makes It Official: Meetings Will Move to 4:30 p.m

Change begins on March 22

The Pasadena City Council adopted an ordinance on Monday that moves the City Council’s meeting time to 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The vote to move the meeting time came last week, but required second reading of the ordinance was not completed until this past Monday.

Although the Municipal Code requires the council to hold its “regular” meetings at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, the council has been conducting virtual meetings at 2 p.m.

The first meeting under the ordinance is expected to take place on March 22. Although the council met at 4:30 p.m. this past Monday, that meeting was labeled a special meeting because the second reading of the ordinance had not been read.

A second reading of the ordinance is scheduled for Monday’s meeting. The ordinance would take effect on March 22.

The move to change the council’s meeting time was made by Mayor Victor Gordo “to accommodate more public participation,” as Gordo said.

“After listening to many in the public request that we get back to a more normal meeting time, we’re going to be doing that,” he said.

The council has not met at its regular time since last March, when City Manager Steve Mermell declared a local emergency.
