The City Council honored two local champion athletes, Ella Lesnever and Destiny Rayburn, at Monday’s meeting.
According to Mayor Victor Gordo, Lesnever is one of the most decorated swimmers in the City’s history. She has won four California Interscholastic Federation titles, two of which were earned recently at Mount San Antonio College during the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division IV Finals.
This past weekend Lesnever competed in Fresno at the state finals at Clovis West High School and came in eighth in the girls 100 yard freestyle and ninth in the girls 50 yard freestyle.
In 2023 Rayburn was Rio Hondo League champion in the long jump and finished third in the 100 meters California Interscholastic Federation. This year she finished fourth in the long jump and was the Rio Hondo League champion in the triple jump and finished second in the long jump,. Rayburn finished third in California Interscholastic Federation in the long jump and triple jump.
Gordo presented the Blair High School athletes with commendations for their success.
“I’m so proud to be here today for these two wonderful athletes. Our Pasadena Unified School District schools are just doing so well and I’m so proud to be a part of this community and to be a Pasadena Unified School District school Board trustee,” said Pasadena Unified School District Trustee Jennifer Hall Lee that was at the meeting on Monday. “I am so proud to watch you grow and to see what you’re going to be doing next.”
