Pasadena plans to begin a citywide round of concrete repairs Tuesday, Oct. 20, with FS Contractors Inc. handling sidewalk, curb and gutter work under an on-call project, city officials announced.
Unlike the city’s annual sidewalk program, this supplemental project is intended to address immediate concrete repair needs, including other concrete infrastructure.
The announcement does not provide an address-by-address schedule in its text or specify how long the work will continue.
The Public Works Department described the effort in an Oct. 15 update distributed by Councilmember Steve Madison’s District 6 office.
Pasadena had announced an April 13 start for its separate annual accessibility project, covering approximately 600 locations and roughly 75,000 square feet of planned sidewalk replacement, according to an April city release. The city said council members had approved a contract for that annual project with C J Concrete Construction Inc. the previous November.
The city said the annual program targeted damaged walkways identified through maintenance and accessibility priorities. It described better pedestrian access and stormwater drainage as goals. The city had anticipated completing the separate annual project by July.
For property owners, Pasadena’s standing sidewalk rules are a separate issue. The city’s Public Works website says permanent repairs along a property frontage are primarily the owner’s responsibility under the municipal code, including damage caused by street trees. It also describes a repair reimbursement program for eligible work approved by city inspectors.
Under the published program guidelines, approved applicants may hire a contractor registered with California’s Department of Industrial Relations to perform work under a Public Works permit. The city’s street-maintenance page lists reimbursement at 50% of eligible costs, capped at $8 per square foot and $1,000 per property frontage. These guidelines concern property-owner repairs, rather than the newly announced on-call work.
Residents can report damaged sidewalks or request temporary asphalt maintenance patches through the City Service Center at (626) 744-7311 or the city’s online reporting service.
