The city of Pasadena plans to put seven police officers and corporals, a sergeant, two Pasadena Fire Department investigators and two Pasadena Fire Firework Prevention Teams on the streets on July 4 — and to have inspected 4,611 residential properties for hazardous vegetation before the holiday — under a Fourth of July illegal fireworks crackdown.
That’s the message to be delivered Wednesday by Pasadena Fire Chief Chad Augustin, Pasadena Fire Department Deputy Chief Anthony James and Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian to the city’s Public Safety Committee.
Pre-Fourth of July mitigation activities that will be outlined in the briefing include early activation of the Fireworks Task Force and patrols prior to July 4; a robust legacy and social media messaging campaign in English and Spanish; and signage posted throughout Pasadena, including signs, vehicle stickers, and changeable portable and pole-mounted message signs. A press conference is set for June 25.
The enforcement staffing plan presented in the slides ramps up day by day. From Friday, June 26, through Tuesday, June 30, the city would deploy four Pasadena Police Department officers and corporals on enhanced fireworks duty. From Wednesday, July 1, through Friday, July 3, that figure would rise to six officers and corporals.
The Pasadena Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, in the Pasadena City Hall Council Chamber, Room S249, in Pasadena.
