Amateur boxers from across Southern California will square off in front of Pasadena City Hall next month as the city hosts its 11th Annual Centennial Square Boxing Show.
The free event is scheduled for Aug. 21 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Centennial Square, 100 N. Garfield Ave., where Olympic-style amateur bouts will feature male and female competitors ages 8 and older.
Presented by the Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, the annual showcase has become a summer tradition, drawing spectators from throughout the region to the plaza in front of the city’s historic City Hall.
The card will include athletes representing boxing gyms from across Southern California, with the city’s Villa Parke Boxing Program also fielding several local competitors.
Scheduled to represent Villa Parke are Eli Jimenez, Roman Ramirez, Adriana Nunez, Marvin Gomes, Horacio Rosales and Gabriel Ponce.
The Villa Parke Boxing Program has produced numerous amateur boxers over the years, providing youth with opportunities to develop athletic skills while stressing discipline, fitness and sportsmanship.
City officials said the event is designed to bring the community together while showcasing amateur boxing talent in a family-friendly setting. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
The Centennial Square Boxing Show will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Centennial Square outside Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave.
