Pasadena’s economic development team received statewide recognition Monday night, highlighting the city’s innovative approach to community growth and resilience.
During the City Council meeting, the chair of the California Association of Local Economic Development (CalEd) presented an award of merit to three city staff members — David Klug, Teresa Garcia, and Christopher Page — for their comprehensive five-year economic development strategy.
Jennifer McLain Hiramoto, CalEd chair and the City of Ontario, California’s Executive Director of Economic Development, presented the award, praising Pasadena’s strategic vision.
“This strategy represents the culmination of extensive research, collaboration, and thoughtful planning,” Hiramoto said.
The strategy encompasses multiple ambitious goals, including championing life sciences and reinforcing Pasadena’s reputation as a cultural and entertainment destination. Notably, the plan was developed alongside the city’s response to supporting businesses impacted by the recent Eaton Fire.
Hiramoto emphasized the strategy’s significance, stating it goes “beyond what you already do, which is a very robust work plan” and demonstrates the city’s commitment to economic development and community improvement.
In a separate ceremonial moment, Lorraine C. Chapman was sworn in to the Transportation Advisory Commission, taking a formal oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and California.
