Rep. Judy Chu will visit the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon to demand answers about constituents detained in recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.
The California Democrat is scheduled to arrive at the facility at 4 p.m., where Pasadena residents swept up in ICE operations are reportedly being held.
The visit follows multiple ICE raids in Chu’s 28th Congressional District over the weekend and Wednesday morning.
Newly released footage appears to show ICE agents aiming weapons at civilians, driving recklessly through residential streets and failing to show warrants or identify themselves.
Chu plans to seek accountability and transparency regarding her constituents currently detained. She plans to demand information about the circumstances of their arrests and whether they are receiving due process.
The congresswoman represents parts of Los Angeles County including Pasadena, where some of the people were detained today.
ICE operations in the district have raised concerns about potential violations of law enforcement protocols. The footage suggests agents may have committed serious legal violations during the raids.
Chu said she intends to use the detention center visit to gather information about conditions for those being held and the legal procedures being followed.
