Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-28) will visit Pacific Clinics Head Start’s Peoria Early Head Start Center on Thursday to meet with educators, families and children, and participate in a community roundtable focused on the future of early childhood education.
The visit follows federal actions that have jeopardized Head Start programs nationwide, including regional office closures and funding cuts under the Trump administration.
The event, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. PT, will spotlight the essential services Head Start provides to vulnerable families, including early learning, health screenings, nutritious meals and family support.
Pacific Clinics officials warn that recent funding threats could destabilize services for hundreds of children in Los Angeles County, especially those affected by the Eaton Fire, which destroyed three Head Start sites, displaced 50 children and left 10 families without homes.
Joining Chu will be Pacific Clinics President and CEO Kathy McCarthy, Head Start Executive Director Wassy Tesfa, Board Member Greg Bowman, and local teachers and families who will share firsthand accounts of resilience and recovery.
The visit draws attention to concern among educators and advocates about the future of federally supported early education programs.
