Councilmember Elect Rick Cole to Host Water Forum Amid Rising Rates and Supply Concerns

In his third weekly video update, District 2 Councilmember-elect Rick Cole announced the second installment of his Monthly Issues Forum, this one entitled “Where Will Pasadena Get Our Water?” The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Jefferson School Auditorium.

Cole noted that the forum follows the City Council’s recent approval of water rate hikes. Rates are expected to rise 22% this year and by 70% over the next five years, he said.

“Water is something we all need, and it’s what keeps Pasadena green,” Cole said in the video. “But the question is, not only is water more expensive, but will we have enough in a hotter and drier climate in the future?”

To address these pressing concerns and explore how Pasadena can ensure reliable water at an affordable price, Cole has assembled a panel of experts to provide valuable insights and perspectives on the issue. 

He will moderate the panel, which is set to include Adán Ortega Jr., Chair of the Metropolitan Water District Board; Joone Kim-Lopez, Chief Executive Officer of Moulton Niguel Water District; Tim Brick, Executive Director of Stewards of the Arroyo Seco; and Stacie Takeguchi, Assistant General Manager of Pasadena Water and Power.

Following the panel discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share their comments. 

“Our goal is to educate and engage our community, bringing everyone into the conversation about how we can work toward a sustainable future,” Cole said.

The event will highlight water supply issues in Pasadena, current challenges and ongoing projects related to water management in the city.
