Councilmember Rivas Endorses Candidate Lamar For District 3 City Council Seat

District 5 Councilmember Jess Rivas has endorsed Brandon Lamar according to a statement released on Tuesday.

“I’m endorsing Brandon because he understands the job is about being present and making real connections with neighbors. One of the things that most impressed me most during the appointment process was how many District 3 residents wrote and called in to share how present and connected he is. When Brandon is on the Council he will show up and he will listen to you because that is what he has always done,” said Rivas in a prepared statement.

Lamar is running against incumbent Justin Jones for the District 3 seat.

“I am very pleased to announce that Councilmember Jess Rivas has officially endorsed my campaign for Pasadena City Council District 3,” Lamar said.

The seat will be decided at the 2024 election. Due to the death of John J. Kennedy last year, the City was forced to twice appoint a councilmember to fill the seat.

Jones was appointed both times. The Charter calls for the City Council to appoint a replacement if a seat becomes vacant.

The process could be changed by voters during charter reform at the next election.
