Dwyane Wade’s Son Zaire Faces Felony Domestic-Violence Arraignment at Pasadena Courthouse

The eldest son of Basketball Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning at the Pasadena Courthouse on a felony domestic-violence charge stemming from an alleged June incident in Burbank.

Zaire Blessing Wade, 24, is due in court at 8:30 a.m. to hear a single felony count and enter a plea, bringing a case that has drawn national attention into a Pasadena courtroom.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the charge on July 9, and if the felony is proven Wade faces two, three or four years in state prison and a possible fine of up to $6,000. A criminal charge is an allegation, not a finding of guilt, and Wade has not been convicted.

According to the arraignment advisory, the hearing is set for Department D of the Pasadena Courthouse, 300 E. Walnut St., on Thursday, July 16. The listed contact number is 626-396-3303.

The complaint, filed by District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman, charges Wade with one felony count of corporal injury to a spouse, cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend or child’s parent under California Penal Code Section 273.5.

Prosecutors allege in the filing that Wade “willfully inflicted corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition” on a woman with whom he was in a dating relationship, identified in court records only as “Jane Doe.” The complaint also carries sentencing allegations, accusing Wade of “great violence, great bodily harm, threat of great bodily harm, and other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, and callousness.”

The single filed count is narrower than the offenses for which Wade was initially booked.

According to a Burbank Police Department spokesperson, Wade was “booked for domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment” at the time of his arrest, and it remains unclear whether prosecutors will separately pursue the criminal-threats or false-imprisonment allegations.

The charge stems from a June 21 incident in Burbank. Police responded to a residence at about 5:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a woman screaming, and officers found a woman with lacerations to her face and body, according to police sources cited by NBC4. The woman was evaluated at the scene and not transported to a hospital. A handgun was seized from the home, and an emergency protective order was issued for the alleged victim. Wade posted a $50,000 bond and was released the same day.

Zaire Wade is the eldest son of Dwyane Wade, the Basketball Hall of Famer who won three NBA championships and earned 13 All-Star selections over a 16-season career spent mostly with the Miami Heat and now holds a minority ownership stake in the Utah Jazz. The younger Wade attended Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, where he played alongside Bronny James in 2019–2020, later had a G League stint with the Salt Lake City Stars, and most recently played for the Cape Town Tigers in the Basketball Africa League. Dwyane Wade has not publicly addressed the case, and Zaire Wade and his representatives had not commented as of the latest filings.

Thursday’s arraignment is expected to be the first of several hearings as the case proceeds through the Los Angeles County Superior Court system.
