Fire broke out early Friday morning at a vacant commercial building in East Pasadena, causing an estimated $250,000 in damage before firefighters brought it under control, according to Pasadena Fire Department spokesperson Lisa Derderian.
Firefighters were dispatched at 2:23 a.m. to a commercial building in the 2000 block East Colorado Boulevard in response to a report of an outside fire, Derderian reported.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames on the steps leading into the building and requested additional resources, concerned the fire may have extended inside.
The flames were confined to a void space between the original pre-1933 building and a newer façade, Derderian reported. There was minimal damage to the original structure.
The vacant rear building where the fire occurred sits behind a single-story used car dealership, which was reportedly undamaged.
No injuries were reported and no residents or businesses were displaced, Derderian said.
Firefighters had the blaze under control by 3:39 a.m.
The Pasadena Police Department assisted with traffic control during the incident, which remains under investigation, said Derderian.
