A longtime resident of Altadena and Pasadena announced his campaign for the Pasadena Unified School Board of Trustees District 2 seat on Tuesday. Juan Carlos Perez, a former teacher and current tech sector marketing director, brings a diverse background in education and technology to the race.

“My mission is to ensure every child in our district receives the highest quality education, regardless of their background,” Perez said in a statement. He added, “I believe in modernizing our schools, integrating technology, and fostering inclusive environments.”

Born in Peru, Perez immigrated to the United States at a young age.

He earned his bachelor’s degree with high honors from Wesleyan University. Perez pursued graduate studies in comparative literature at the University of California Berkeley, focusing on medieval German, French, and Latin.

His career began in teaching, spanning elementary schools, high schools, and colleges. Perez also mentored veterans at Wesleyan University and business professionals through South by Southwest (SXSW).

Currently, Perez serves as the marketing director for Art+Logic, a Pasadena-based firm specializing in custom software development.

Perez and his wife, Beth, are parents to three children, including one who graduated from Blair High School. They are proud parents of an LGBTQ+ and autistic child.

“My top priorities include transparency, accountability, and focusing on student needs,” Perez said in a statement.

He said he is dedicated to building a people-powered campaign to give the community a voice in educational matters.

“Our kids deserve the best, and I am dedicated to making that a reality,” he said.
