Ellen Elizabeth Daigle, beloved businesswoman and community member of South Pasadena, passed away peacefully at home on September 12, surrounded by loving family members, after a long battle with brain cancer. She was 82 years old.
Ellen was the co-owner of Ellen’s Silkscreening, a fixture on Mission Street in South Pasadena for over 40 years. Founded in her garage in the late 1970s, Ellen built the business from the ground up while raising her three young daughters. What started as a way for Ellen, a registered nurse, to work from home grew into a thriving local business that became an integral part of the South Pasadena community.
Known for her warmth, creativity and dedication to customer service, Ellen took pride in providing custom apparel and promotional items for local schools, businesses and organizations. She was passionate about supporting other small businesses and giving back to the community that had embraced her family and business for decades.
Ellen is survived by her husband and business partner Joe Daigle, daughters Raquel, Diana and Angie, stepson Michael, sons-in-law Cary and Howard, daughter-in-law Katie, and grandchildren Avi, Asher, Yosef and Vivienne. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished time with her family above all else.
A private interment was held on September 15 at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Simi Valley. A “Celebration of Life” to honor Ellen will be held in the coming months at the Caltech Athenaeum.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellen’s name may be made to Planned Parenthood, Skid Row Running Club and AbilityFirst, causes that were close to her heart.
Ellen will be deeply missed by her family, friends, employees and the entire South Pasadena community. Her legacy of entrepreneurship and business acumen, creativity and community service will live on through the business she built and the lives she touched.
