The Community Police Oversight Commission (CPOC) Thursday voted unanimously to elect Commissioner Esprit Loren Jones as the commission’s new chair.

Jones, who will serve for fiscal year 2023-2024, is from District 1. She will replace Rául Ibáñez.

“I am so honored and grateful to everyone who said yes, thank you,” said Jones after the voting.

The CPOC also voted unanimously to reelect Commissioner Juliana Serrano as vice chair.

“Thank you all for your vote of confidence once again to serve in this position,” Serrano said.

“Commissioner Jones, it has been an honor to serve with you thus far and I’m really excited for your leadership,” added Serrano.

Serrano said Jones’s heart for the work of the commission is going to make the commission and the CPOC’s relationship with the City, the Pasadena Police Department and the community stronger.

Ibáñez, who is from District 5, is the first chair of the CPOC, which first convened in October of 2021.

The CPOC’s role is to strengthen community-police relations and make recommendations regarding ongoing operations of the Pasadena Police Department to the chief of police and to the City Council.
