Meera Boghani (l) and Judy Brown (r)

Families Forward Learning Center is proud to welcome Meera Boghani and former board member Judy Brown to its Board of Directors. Each brings their strength in community and business leadership and are poised to share their time and talents in support of Families Forward Learning Center’s mission of preparing families living in isolation and poverty to succeed in school and in life through two-generation learning programs.

Meera Boghani received an MS in Nutrition from India and an MS in Nutrition with emphasis on public health from Tufts University in Boston. Throughout her career of over 40 years in the field of Nutrition, Meera has worked in various institutions in the Boston area as a Nutritionist/Dietitian. She also worked for the federally funded Women, Infant and Children program (WIC). In WIC she worked with nutritionally “at-risk populations” of low-income pregnant women and children under 5 years of age. This program also gave her many opportunities to get involved with other organizations in the community helping this population, such as community health centers, Head Start and foster care. Meera worked 11 years at Boston Children’s Hospital before retiring in 2018. Her responsibilities there involved working with a team of doctors and other professionals to manage the best possible nutritional outcome for children during their illness.

Judy Brown is a third generation native Californian, product of a military family, and a 35 year resident of Pasadena. Following stints as a flight attendant, banker and grantmaking foundation administrator, she shifted focus to full-time mom of three and volunteer, ranging from Scout leader to non-profit boards. Over the years, these have included Mothers’ Club/Families Forward Learning Center, the Art Center 100 Executive Board, YWCA Pasadena Foothill Valley and YWCA USA, Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley, and a variety of volunteer positions while her husband David was Executive Director of Descanso Gardens. In 2006, this accumulated nonprofit experience led her to start a consulting practice offering governance and organizational support to nonprofit boards, including corporate secretarial services, board liaison, governance counseling and special project management. Judy has a BA from College of Notre Dame in the Bay Area and counts herself a proud life-long feminist and advocate for health equity and reproductive justice for all women. In 2023, as a grandmother of four (soon to be five), the needs of families with young children have again become a major priority.
