[Updated: 5:41 pm.] A traffic accident shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday near the corner of Orange Grove Boulevard and Martello Avenue involving up to six cars claimed the lives of a mother and her 9-year-old daughter on their way to a local school.

Witnesses report that the woman’s Toyota Sequoia apparently careened and struck several cars before finally impacting a Cadillac Escalade.

Pasadena Fire Dept. spokesperson Lisa Derderian reports that arriving emergency personnel did a search of the wrecked car and located the body of the driver, later identified by Craig Harvey of county coroner’s office as Robyn Lynn Shaw, 35.

Personnel also discovered two small children in the backseat, secured in car safety seats. Both children has sustained traumatic injuries and were transported to a local hospital, where one is in serious condition and the other is listed as in critical condition, Derderian said.

Upon performing a secondary search of the Sequoia, fire personnel discovered the body a girl, since identified as Victoria Elizabeth Shaw.

Derderian reports there were two other “trauma patients” in other vehicles who were transported to a local hospital. Three others who were injured were treated at the scene but refused further medical attention.

None of the victims has been identified. Derderian said the father has not yet been located, and that a full investigation is underway.
