The filing period for Pasadena’s June 2 municipal election closed Friday, and so far only one incumbent has a confirmed challenger in the three City Council races on the ballot.

Councilmember Jason Lyon, who represents District 7, will face Alethea O’Toole in the upcoming election after both candidates qualified for the ballot.

In District 5, Vice Mayor Jess Rivas will run unopposed.  Christine Rodriguez withdrew from the race earlier this week.

District 3 Councilmember Justin Jones has also qualified to seek reelection. Alexandra Annala pulled nomination papers but did not submit them before the filing deadline. Another prospective candidate, Capriel A. Keaton, filed papers but did not qualify.

Erica Margarita Muñoz filed the necessary paperwork on March 6 and remains listed as pending qualification.

If Muñoz ultimately qualifies, Jones could face a challenger in the District 3 race.

Candidates were required to gather signatures from registered voters within their districts before submitting nomination paperwork to the City Clerk’s Office. Those seeking to include a candidate statement in the city’s sample ballot booklet were also required to submit a deposit.
