Three Pasadena Unified School District facilities are set to reopen Thursday following environmental testing related to fire relief safety, while two other schools anticipate late starts pending final clearance in the district’s final phase of reopening, district officials announced Monday.

Pasadena High School, John Muir Early College Magnet High School, and the Early Childhood Program at Jefferson Elementary have received clearance to resume normal operations on Jan. 30, according to PUSD Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco, Ed.D. School principals will email specific start times to families, while Early Childhood Program families should expect detailed instructions from the Early Childhood Education office.

Jackson STEM Elementary plans to begin classes at 9:20 a.m., with regular dismissal time, while Marshall Fundamental will operate on a Monday schedule, pending overnight test results were expected between midnight and 5 a.m.

“While all samples so far from different sections of campuses are clearing, tests are ongoing for the remaining sections of most campuses,” Blanco said in a statement to parents. “To date, we have not received any negative test results at any PUSD school. Our methodologies and procedures have allowed every PUSD school to open safely to date, and we anticipate this will remain true for tomorrow as well.”

The district will post all environmental test results on their website at pusd.us/firerelief-safety as soon as possible after receiving them. If unexpected delays occur, the district will notify affected families by 8 a.m., and students will be welcomed to participate in community connector activities at alternative spaces with leaders and staff from their schools.

“As we work to reopen this final group of schools – our largest – it is a fluid process, and we deeply appreciate your patience and understanding,” Blanco added.

The reopenings represent the final phase of the district’s return to normal operations, with testing companies working overnight to complete the process for remaining campus sections.
