Four men were arrested near evacuated homes in Pasadena early Thursday morning after police discovered items in their vehicle indicating they intended to commit burglaries, authorities said.

Glendale police officers arrested Anthony Rodriguez, 24, of Whittier; Daniel Valdivia, 24, of Montebello; German Avila, 29, of Los Angeles; and Ali Fawaz, 33, of Glendale, on suspicion of burglary, according to Pasadena Police Lt. Andrea Perez.

The arrests occurred at 3:04 a.m. in the 1400 block of Rutherford Drive while Glendale officers were assisting Pasadena police with burglary suppression efforts in an evacuation zone, Perez said.

Officers spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area and stopped the car. All four men inside the car were dressed in black and were not residents of the neighborhood, Perez said.

The occupants provided conflicting statements about why they were in the area, according to Perez.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers discovered four pairs of gloves, ski masks, and an empty duffle bag.

The incident occurred in an area where all the homes had been evacuated, Perez said. The suspects were taken into custody.
