Pasadena’s Rent Stabilization Department will be joined by two local housing organizations and another city department at the Jackie Robinson Community Center on Friday, expanding a neighborhood drop-in counseling series that has run since February.
The majority of Pasadena households are renters. For two hours, four agencies will answer their questions in one room, with no appointment required.
Rent Stabilization staff will take questions on rent stabilization laws, tenant and landlord rights, rent increases, petitions, rental registration and other rental housing matters, according to the city.
The Department of Housing will cover affordable housing, rental assistance, Housing Choice Voucher services, commonly known as Section 8, and other city programs that help residents keep stable housing.
The Housing Rights Center will offer free landlord-tenant and fair housing counseling, including discrimination concerns and disability-related reasonable accommodations and modifications.
Friends In Deed will bring resources for people facing financial hardship, housing instability or homelessness, including food assistance.
Participating organizations and Rent Stabilization staff will give brief presentations at the start, followed by one-on-one conversations. The center already houses the Housing Rights Center’s Pasadena office.
“We’re very happy to see how Chats & Snacks has continued to grow with each event,” said Helen Morales, director of the Rent Stabilization Department.
Chats & Snacks with a Housing Counselor runs Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave. Admission is free and open to the public, and no registration or appointment is required.
Housing Counselors will assist in English and Spanish, and coffee and snacks will be provided.
Residents may drop in any time; those who want the presentations should come at the start.
