Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley announced the addition of four new members to its Board of Directors. The new members, Suzie Abajian, Ricky Choi, Dominick Correy, and Jennifer Love Tang, bring extensive experience and leadership to the organization.

Elise Wetzel, who joined the Board in 2020, will serve as the Chair of the Board for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley works at federal, state, and local levels to ensure access to sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion care, and sex education provided by Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley.

Suzie Abajian, a former educator and South Pasadena School Board Member, currently serves as the elected City Clerk for Glendale. Ricky Choi, a resident of Monterey Park and former Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley Board member, is the Director of Government and Community Relations for the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments. Dominick Correy, who grew up in Pasadena and now lives in Covina, is the Director of Community Engagement at the Rose Bowl Stadium and a former District Representative for California State Senator Anthony Portantino (SD 25). Jennifer Love Tang, a Monterey Park resident, is a former educator with extensive campaign experience and currently serves as the District Director for California Assemblymember Mike Fong (AD 49).

During each election cycle, the Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley Board endorses candidates running for state, municipal, school board, and community college board of trustees’ offices in the San Gabriel Valley and some Northeast Los Angeles communities.

Candidates undergo an extensive application, interview, and selection process.

To obtain the Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley endorsement, candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the issues facing the communities served by Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley, including the fight for comprehensive, medically accurate, age-appropriate sex education in schools and access to abortion care.

“Bodily autonomy and abortion access are among the most critical issues in this election cycle,” said Juliana Serrano, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley.

“Californians want to ensure that abortion remains safe and legal in our home state and across the nation. Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley will be working hard between now and election day to ensure we get out the vote and elect leaders into office at every level of government that support Planned Parenthood and what we stand for. The new Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley Board members are proven fierce advocates for reproductive rights, and I know their experience will make us stronger.”
